About a year ago I read the Da Vinci Code and have been wanting to read The Lost Symbol ever since so I figure now is the perfect time with the long Christmas break coming up. I have read about ten chapters over this week and only wish I had more time to read but with my last week of school approaching I do not see that in my future for the next six days anyway. Mysteries have always been on interest to me and I love the way Brown pulls facts into the story of fiction.
This book has seen it share of controversy for the subject matter it covers and the fact that facts are pulled into fiction perhaps making it confusing to readers. This is definantly an adult book and should not be read by young readers that may confuse fact and fiction. For myself I know my history, my Bible and where I stand fairly well so I do not worry about my mind or beliefs being swayed.

I finished my book today! Holden performed in Beauty and the Beast without a hitch. The whole community was effected by this young man's transformation. Ella is closer to her mother, Holden's parents are getting peices of their littleboy back and a high school has learned to accept students different from theirselves. God has allowed on boy to change hearts simply because he is autistic.
Stories like this give me hope for my son. He is very different from Holden yet I know there is more going on in his head than he can express. It is frustrating for me to not be able to understand what he wants and frustrating for him when he cannot tell me or show me. Autisim is a world we are just beginning to discover and someday I hope we can crack the code.

Shaken by the suicide of their friend Micheal, people at Fulton high are looking at life in a new light. Ella leads a memorial for Micheal where she scolds many of the student body for their treatment of Micheal and challenges them to a better treatment of others different from them. The drama teacher approaches Ella and tells her hewants Holden to sing in the school play, he also sang at the memorial for Micheal. Music is his way out and he is progressing by leaps and bounds. Ella and Holden's mother's begin to talk to eachother once again and it is clears God is performing miracles.

Sunday evening I was able to get a few hours in between nursing myself through a cold and taking care of my child with a cold. Being sick is bad enough but when your baby is sick it just breaks your heart.
Ella finds herself pulling further and further away from her old friends, and spending more and more time with Holden. He is singing everyday before rehearsals still and Holden's mom has even witnessed it now. Jake (Ella's ex- boyfriend has grown jealous of her spending time with Holden and has started spreading rumors that she is "hooking up" with him. It takes all Ella has not to explode on him when she sees him after a basketball game. Then Jake begins picking on Micheal (a flute player Ella has befriended) and Ella reaches her breaking point. She shoves him and yells at him for what he has done. Ella's Best friend Le Shante tells Jake that he is basically lousy on and off the court and he is finally put it his place and shuts his insulting mouth for now....

Unlocked Post 10/30
I managed to sneak in a few hours of reading yesterday just before bed. Holden is making so much progress, and Ella and Mrs. Harris (Holden's Mother) is floating on cloud nine with Holden singing and responding to her more than he has in years. Holden's singing and actually said a word to Ella, he communicated to his mother through his PECS cards and his his own way asked for Ella to join them in church. Ella accepted.....
For any other high school senior this would mean nothing but every milestone for an autistic child is celebrated, especially when you have waited FIFTEEN years to see it again in your child. My son was a bit younger when he lost his speech but it is devastating. However life goes on whether we want it to or not, so my philosophy is that I give myself one day to feel sorry for myself and let the shock wear off and then I begin to form a plan of action. It works for me, but perhaps it is not for everyone. Have a great Halloween!

With Holden making more and more progress everyday, Ella find herself spending more andmore time with him and less and less with her old group of friends. She does not mind though she is with drawing from them as she sees the difference she is making in Holden's life. The school musical is getting close and Ella is still trying to figure out how to get Holden a part but with his drama fees paid she is one step closer....
This week was very scattered for my reading I was only able to get in a few minutes right before bed, but finally I have reached 90 minutes.

"Unlocked" By: Karen Kingsbury Post 2
Holden (autistic boy) makes it into the theatre classroom and watches the drama students rehearse and does very well until the mob scene when the villagers are going after the Beast, in Beauty and the Beast. He gets very upset and acts out but after everyone has left he makes eye contact with Ella, his long lost friend from when he was two and three. Ella has always been a part of his life see everyday after school he watches a home video of Ella and himself dancing before autisim took him over and locked him deep inside himself. The mother of Holden has began talking with Ella as well after the rehersals and they are becoming to gain a reconnection. Stay Tuned.......
My son was also between two and three when he stopped talking and began showing signs of autisim, in fact it was only about a month after he turned two. My son is not as severe as the boy in this story however the have many similarities. They both love music, and they both "flap" their arms, my son does it in excitement.
